Common questions
Corporate responsibility
- 1. What is your view on corporate responsibility?
We recognise that to build a sustainable, profitable business, we need to ensure that high standards of corporate responsibility exist across all aspects of our business. We take a practical and pragmatic approach to managing these issues and have embedded corporate responsibility as an executive management responsibility.
- 2. Do you have a CR policy?
Yes, it is our policy to build a sustainable and profitable business while behaving as a good corporate citizen in all of our activities.
Read more about our approach to CR.
- 3. Do you have main Board support for the CR programme?
Yes, the Board supports a phased approach to corporate responsibility. The approach has two fundamental levels: strategic consideration and planned implementation. Strategic consideration is given to defined issues as part of the normal corporate business cycle resulting in full Board consideration of proposals. Planned implementation then follows, led by the central CR team.
- 4. Is the programme externally verified?
-
We appreciate the added significance that is often given to third party evaluations of company activities through audit and verification mechanisms.
We use audit as a fundamental management tool to stimulate continual improvement in the quality of our management and performance. Throughout the Group we use a balance of external independent audit and internal site-based and self-audit.
Corporate governance and OHS&E audits are well established and we have also extended our audits to cover social and human rights issues.
We currently verify the data and statements in our CR Reviews using independent assurors.
- 5. Have indicators been set to measure the company's performance in CR?
We currently use a number of performance indicators to measure and report our progress. We have developed a non-financial reporting framework to measure and target performance in areas we consider may pose a potential risk to the business. You can read about these in our approach to CR and in our latest CR Review.
We also benchmark our performance in CR against that of other companies in a number of externally driven indices.
- 6. How often is progress in the area of CR reported to the Board?
-
The Board receives a report in writing quarterly as well as verbal updates. Progress is also reported monthly to the Corporate Development Director.
- 7. Do you produce a CR report?
Yes, read our latest CR Review.
- 8. How do I contact your CR department?
